Calm down Longhorn fans, Nick Saban has signed a long term deal which will pay him more than $7 mm a year. A stellar coach with an equally stellar contract. So where does that leave Mack Brown? ESPN reported all Thursday and early Friday that Brown had a meeting with university president Bill Powers. Well, that meeting took place and it wasn't just with Brown and Powers, new AD Steve Patterson was also in that meeting. So, what was the outcome? Nothing. Apparently, Brown is still not fired but ESPN is reporting that Mack is fighting to save his job. I've said this before, this whole situation is a shame and Mack Brown doesn't deserve to be treated this way. For goodness sake, he's won a National Championship and it's my contention that he would've won a second if Colt McCoy hadn't been injured on the first drive of the National Championship game against the aforementioned Nick Saban-led Alabama Crimson Tide. Think about it, Texas is the only non-SEC team to win the National Championship since 2005 and if they beat 'Bama in 2009 it would have broken a streak of 3 in a row SEC Championships. But it didn't happen and now the SEC will be trying to make it 8 in a row when Auburn faces off against Florida State in January.
Mack Brown made Texas relevant again and now he is nine games shy of breaking Darryl Royal's all time win record at UT. Brown deserves the chance to move forward. IMO he deserves to be allowed to stay as long as he wants. He's earned the right.
