One play into the Northwestern State game, it was apparent it wasn't going to be the game the Lamar secondary broke out of its season-long funk.

Cardinals' senior cornerback Seth Ellis (http://www.beaumontenterprise.com/search/?action=search&channel=sports%2Flamar&inlineLink=1&searchindex=gsa&query=%22Seth+Ellis%22) was beat for a 39-yard pass play, the start of another porous game for the Lamar secondary, which ranks 10th in the Southland Conference allowing 261.8 passing yards per game.

Demons' quarterback Stephen Rivers (http://www.beaumontenterprise.com/search/?action=search&channel=sports%2Flamar&inlineLink=1&searchindex=gsa&query=%22Stephen+Rivers%22) completed 15 of 21 passes for 197 yards and two touchdowns against Ellis and the secondary in Rivers' first start of the season.

"I don't think we've played that poorly," Ellis said. "But we definitely haven't done our best this season. We need to do better."

Any chance they would move the game up to Noon or 2pm to try and avoid the rain that is expected Saturaday late evening? I guess ESPN3 might need some consideration.

Since we can't pass worth a damn, rain might be an advantage. Looks like UCA can pass. Top rushing offense vs 2nd best rushing defense, something's gotta give.

Saturday's matchup will not only be a game between two of the Southland's top teams, but fans will also have their eyes on the game within the game. Although known as the Cardinals, LU brings the nation's leading rusher into the game – <dfn style="box-sizing: content-box; font-style: normal; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 20px;">Kade Harrington (http://www.lamarcardinals.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=1089)</dfn> (185 ypg). The Cardinals lead the Southland in in rushing averaging better than 270 yards per game, while UCA is second in the league at stopping the run. The Bears are one of only two Southland schools who surrender less than 100 yards per contest (96.8 ypg). LU is second in the league with 18 rushing touchdowns, while Central Arkansas has only allowed seven rushing scores all seasons.

The offense-defensive matchups will be fun to watch throughout the game. LU has the league's second-ranked scoring offense, while the Bears have the SLC's second-best scoring defense. It is a similar situation for total offense. Big Red is sixth in the league in passing, but UCA as struggled against the pass this year allowing just under 270 yards. On the flip side, the Bears also bring one of the league's top offenses to town ranked just behind the Red and White in total offense (415 ypg).

I wondered about that too, but looking at the weather forecast looks like a 100% chance of rain all day long.

Regrettably, the wife and I may miss the game. We've watched games in the rain numerous times, but the "weather guessers" aren't painting a very good picture for safe travel back to Houston. We need the rain. I just wish the timing would be better. :(

It's one o'clock and there is still no rain. Maybe we'll get lucky and the rain will wait until around 11 o'clock tonight. Not likely but we can hope. Lamar needs to bounce back but I just wonder what they can do to shore up the pass defense. About the only way is to get a better pass rush. If we can pressure the QB then maybe the DBs will have a chance to do their job. I think Lamar has to sell out and blitz the crap out of UCA. They will need good gap control to stop the run but Lamar has to do something to stop the weekly dissection of the secondary by opposing QBs. If I can I will be at the game. Go Cards.

Never heard of a rainout, unless the city is flooding like SC-LSU......lightning delays possible. It ain't baseball!

Cards made a stop and got the ball back and they drove the ball down the field on the strength of a 49 yd run by Kade to the UCA 12. Begelton hurt on 2nd down, crap call on 3rd and Lamar had to settle for a FG. UCA 15 Lamar 3. Four times now in UCA territory and all we have to show for it is 3 lousy points.

To be honest I don't know what the status of Earp is. He wasn't even warming up pregame last week...not there tonight to even see if he's on the sidelines...gotta think he's got something wrong that hasn't been announced. I try not to question coaching but I just don't understand riding a guy that's not getting it done...although as I sit here listening to the game I'm watching A&M ride their QB who has completed like 1 of his last 20 passes...

When he got hurt against SELA they called it a "bruised shoulder" and Coach Woodard said there was no structural damage...then just prior to the next game they said the shoulder soreness got worse as the week went on...that's the last that I've seen announced...but like I said I'm assuming it's more serious than has been we've seen reported. But as I said after last week...let us see what the freshman Cox has...

Sat through an entire game in the Rain, Cards didn't look good at all. UCA starting RB didn't play tonight. Backup gave us fits tonight. Tackling is a major problem for LU. Very poor performance for 2nd week in a row. Come on Big Red!!!

I did too. Tackling was bad but the defensive line and linebackers got totally dominated. We looked completely unprepared to play. We played with no intensity whatsoever. We have the best running back in the country yet we cannot muster up enough offensive creativity to give him any help at all. Our receivers cannot get open, our qb can't throw, and our defense can't stop the run or the pass. But our db's are all American trash talkers. All I can say is thank god we have harrington. Even with all the horrible play and horrible coaching going on, he's worth the price of admission. Kid can flat out play.

We got manhandled at the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. Defensive scheme was just plain stupid - they did whatever they wanted, whenever they wanted. Interior D-line got mauled, linebackers made tackles, about 5 to 10 yards down the field. We need a real defensive coordinator - we play high school defense and it shows.

Thank you thank you thank you!!! I couldn't agree more. Half the time our defense looks like they have no idea what is going on!! They ran 86 plays to our 55!!!! Granted, part of that was the interceptions but the biggest culprit was our defense!!! We could NOT stop them!! Veasley, Veasley, Veasley, Veasley!!!!!!!

Randle hurt his foot in practice. He's part of the Team, so his performance sucked also. A promising season is now very frustrating. I'm done venting, on to next week.

It's time for a coach change. This guy had sufficient amount of time to build and make progress with the program. He's not a good recruiter and continues to go the junior college route. Start the petition

Ran for 347 to tie Kade as the single game high this year. Fordham has also played 1 more game than Lamar (bye week isn't until the last week of the season) so while Kade trails in total at the moment (1393 vs 1353) he leads in Y/G at 194 to 174.

With the season in shambles at this point and is having HBU and Nicholls the next 2 opponents I say run Kade every play the next 2 weeks and put this think out of reach
