Lamar Baseball Home Opener Tomorrow

Lamar Baseball opens their season on Friday at 6:00 pm at Vincent-Beck Stadium versus University of Rhode Island. Saturday’s game versus the URI Rams is at 2pm.

Does LU have at least a flip of the won - loss numbers this year? Last two have been around 18 wins and 33 losses. If not then Davis and company either aren't good enough at coaching or can't recruit the talent needed. While LU has really good basketball and football facilities the baseball don't appear to be comparable in quality? Does that matter to whether you can land a top recruit?

Bottom of the 7th, finds the Cards down by one on two solo home runs for Rhode Island. Up to this inning neither pitcher had given up a walk but the R.I. pitcher has given up two straight walks after a pop up out. R.I. makes a pitching change.

LU gets two runs in the bottom of the 7th on two walks and a R.I. throwing error to take a 3-2 lead. LU makes a pitching change to start the 8th.

R.I ties the game on a walk and a two out triple. Lamar used two pitchers in the inning.

Cards get four runs in the bottom of the 8th on a three hits and a hit batter for a 7-3 advantage going to the top of the 9th. Hopefully that's enough.

Final of first game Lamar 7 - Rhode Island 3. Seven innings from the LU starter, with no walks, ten strike outs, two hits. The negative was both hits were home runs. I'll take that kind of a start every Friday night. Hopefully as the weather warms up and the humidity rises the hits will stay in the park.

Today’s game had a decent crowd considering it was cool (60 degrees), damp, and a breeze from center field. Good job by the bullpen.

End of 5th inning, Cards now lead 2-0, but left bases loaded in bottom of the 5th. Faith still has a 1 hitter, Lamar has3 hits.

Lamar loses to Rhode Island Rams 4-2. Cards didn’t get the needed timely hits and Rhode Island did. Both teams had 6 hits and 1 error for the Rams, none for the Cards.

It would have been nice to get a sweep, but two out of three is good. I would take that every weekend.
