Notes from Woodard’s Thursday press conference

– Wait until Saturday to learn the starting quarterback. That’s what Woodard said when asked if Andre Bevil will start against Incarnate Word. Bevil started the first two games.

 

– Wait until Saturday to find out the health of cornerback Branden Thomas, who missed the first two games because of a hamstring injury. Woodard said he will never talk about another injured player for as long as he is at Lamar.

 

– Woodard closed practices to the public because — and I’ll get the exact quote when transcribe the interview — more information his team was going out than information about opponents were coming in. He also said player performances in practices did not need public critiquing. They get enough critiquing on Saturdays, he said.

 

– When asked if he thought anything reported (injuries, etc…) about his team played a role in Lamar’s 30-8 loss at South Alabama, he said no.

 

– Players have been reminded about the close calls against lower division schools Webber International and Langston last season while preparing for this week’s opponent, NCAA Division II member Incarnate Word.

He sounds like a coach wanting to make sure there are no reasons within his power to have the Cardinals over look IWU.

That's sports an it's something you have to deal with. It is hard to figure out Woodard's emotions by reading these Q&A but it does seem like he wasn't in to good of a mood.
