The 2014 roster is now up on the Lamar athletics website:

http://www.lamarcardinals.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/lama-m-footbl-mtt.html

I noticed that Brennon Doty is listed as a QB. Fisher Romar, a RB from PA Memorial, is also on the roster after transferring from Northwestern State. Bret Treadway sure has put on the weight as he's now listed at 290 pounds.

Wonder why Tylond Robertson, the DL trasfer from Tx State didn't make the 2 deep depth chart?

Don't think he was here for spring practices...pretty sure this is the depth chart according to how they will go into fall camp...there will be changes then...don't want to give the guy a 2 deep spot before he's stepped on campus

Edit: I stand corrected...he was on the Spring Roster

Wondering if the roster was just updated with additions and not subtractions...along with Desmond Richards I noticed Ian Kelso, Marcus Washington and Johnathan Green still on there and all have been said that they are no longer playing. Also wonder which weight is right for Wempa?...the 315 on the roster or 345 on the 2 deep...and surprised to see Justin Brock still at 280...seems like at 6'5" he'd have filled out a little more by now...overall i like the size and depth across the line...feel like it may be a real strength for us this season unlike years past...just gotta stay healthy

I wholeheartedly agree with the people who are encouraged by the O-line's size. In the past we were, from a size standpoint boys facing men in the trenches but now it seems like we don't have to bow down to anyone. If the talent matches the size we will have a very formidable front. Defense too. Is our weight program finally paying dividends? I sure hope this has something to do with it.

The OL and DL is getting bigger. The 2012 roster listed 10 players weighing 280 or more. The 2014 roster has 17 players weighing at least 280. Only 5 or 6 of those players in 2012 saw significant playing time. This year at least 9 of those players will see a lot of playing time.

Great information. I thought that that we were going to be bigger, stronger, and deeper on the line. Nice to hear that the numbers are in line with my perception. I think the improvement is due in part to the weight program and good recruiting. For example, We got a 'large' lineman (blenderman) to come to Lamar over an FBS school. That is positive and encouraging to me that we are able to recruit FBS talent as transfers and out of high school.

What happened to Hunter Conn? An O-lineman with some size. I didn't seem him on the roster.

I think he got homesick and went home.

I've been periodically checking the roster online hoping whoever is in charge of that just left him off by accident...he was here for for spring practice then disappeared after that. Did you hear from someone in the AD that's what the issue was?...haven't ever seen any reason given. I was hoping to see him in action this year

Don't remember where I heard that but apparently it was incorrect.

Wempa quit? Damn...

Without reading one post i was just about to inquire about the O-Line and the first things i read is about 2 lineman gone. What a joke. What are they doing over there that makes everybody want to leave. Not 3rd stringers either, starters are leaving. Games are won in the TRENCHES!!!!!! Poor Berry and Harrington, hope they can finish the season.

Only Wempa was listed as a starter on the spring 2-deep, but his backup (John Craven) started in 5 games last year. Wempa was injured last year so who knows how healthy he was. If Conn has bad knees then who can blame him for quitting football? The freshmen signed all have good size so hopefully a few of them can contribute this year.

My updated 2-deep:

Left Tackle

71 Tramon Shead 6-6 305 Sr.-1L (played in 8 games last year)

70 Seth Blenderman 6-4 290 FR (rivals 2-star in HS)

Left Guard

78 John Craven 6-3 290 So.-1L (started 5 games/played in 9)

?? Woods, Adams, Ward ??

Center

56 Chance McCormack 6-3 300 Sr.-1L (played in 5 games)

74 Kevin Greif 6-3 270 Fr.-RS

Right Guard

58 Bret Treadway 6-3 290 So.-1L (11 game starter)

78 John Craven 6-3 285 So.-1L

Right Tackle

76 Justin Brock 6-5 300 Jr.-2L (11 game starter)

70 Seth Blenderman 6-4 290 FR (rivals 2-star in HS)

Comparisons to 2012 seem a little overblown to me. That unit was undersized. This year the starting lineup will average about 297. But with little depth we better pray nobody gets injured!!

Wempa graduated this summer and decided to call it a day. Mayer was having difficulty with football and engineering and decided to go home to work solely on an engineering degree. No fault of the coaches. Keep in mind the starting 5 is pretty stout. Just need some good backups. Keep the faith.

Lost in the site transfer was the news that Lamar should be getting a big transfer in the form of 6'5" 300lbs Kansas State RS Freshman Guard Chance Allen. Friends with John Craven and it seems those two will battle it out for the right to fill the spot left by Brock Wempa at LG.
