Lady's softball fell in the first game of today's double header by a score of 4-3 to FIU. FIU is picked to finish first in the CUSA and kicked Houston's butt in their opener yesterday. In the night cap Lamar defeated Jackson State 9-2. JSU lost their first game to EKU 1-0 and EKU is picked to finish first in their conference, which coincidentally is Coach Bruder's old conference the OVC. In other words, Lamar played two very good teams today and came away looking pretty impressive. One place that needs improvement was the four errors commited by the Lady Cards.

The team will definitely have earned the "Road Warrior" moniker by the end of the start of the season. They just started a road trip of 20 games in four tournaments. The first home game will be against Houston Baptist on March 6 in the first game of the brand spanking new Lamar Softball Complex. To shamelessly steal from a great 1992 movie, "A League of Their Own", it will be nice for the Lady Cardinals to finally have "A Field of Their Own".

According to the schedule, on deck today are the Liberty Flames and the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles. Sunday, the Ladies will play the Eastern Kentucky Lady Colonels.

Lamar gets the best of Liberty University 10-6 to move to 2-1 on the season. Lamar took a 10-0 lead in the top of the sixth inning and in order to get freshman Lauren Napoli some rest Coach brought in another freshmen pitcher Seedborg. She proceeded to give up a six spot in the bottom of the inning and Lauren Napoli was placed back in the game to pitch the last 1.3 innings. Liberty was picked to finish eighth in their conference after winning only 14 games last season.

Ncaa softball would be a lot more interesting and competitive if you HAD to use different pitchers...

In baseball they don't HAVE to use different pitchers. The only reason they do is to keep arms healthy. The underhand pitching in softball is a natural movement and that allows for less strain on the arm and joints. There is no rule in baseball that says a pitcher cannot pitch two or three games in a row.

Aw hell, Big T...if you're gonna split hairs....in little league baseball---yrs 7-18, there IS a rule on pitch counts and days rest.

i know in college and pros, you can pitch whomever, whenever....I'm saying softball would be a lot more competitive if the teams didn't march out the same pitcher game after game. I've noticed LU has thrown a couple different girls...that's good. Watch the softball World Series , same girl pitching over and over and over..can get rather boring

What you don't watch is the season leading up to the WCWS as most teams do use multiple pitchers per series. When it comes to the WCWS they have a day between games which allows a team to use the same pitcher in back to back to back games. Is there one main pitcher all season? Yes. But unlike Baseball where there is a roster of 40 players, Softball has a roster of 18 so you have to throw the same one or two pitchers every game as they are usually the only two on your team. Lamar has three and a two way player in Shannon Sain.
