Between the success of swimmers Michael Phelps and Katie Ledecky to the team win by the women's gymnastics team to the excellence of Simone Biles winning 3 golds so far in the women's team, women's individual and the vault with more to come possibly to the resurgence of USA's premier women's beach volleyball team of Karri Walsh-Jennings and April Ross who beat Australia last night to advance to the semi finals of the event. They will have to beat 2nd seeded Brazil tomorrow to advance to the final. The USA is leading in total medals with 70 medals followed by China (45), Great Britain (38), and Japan (26). The USA leads all countries in gold medals with 26 followed by a tie for 2nd place by China and Great Britain who both have 15. It's been a pretty good Olympics except for the USA's women's soccer team who were eliminated in a 4th round match by Sweden on penalty kicks. Never fear the girls are still partying their asses off in Rio despite the loss.
I turns out the Zika virus is a pretty lame virus. There is a real chance those who have it don't even know they have it because the symptoms are just aren't that bad. It's not that bad for anyone except unborn babies. The Zika can cause severe birth defects so the athletes can't be getting pregnant right now or traveling home to girlfriends or wives who may be expecting children. Aside from this the zika isn't all that bad. When news first broke about it there seemed to be some worry that a global pandemic was about to burst upon the world. Those crazy guys from the media, they sure can blow a story out of proportion can't they?
What isn't funny is USA swimmer Ryan Locte and 3 teammates were robbed at gunpoint by muggers in Rio as they were on the their way to a friend's birthday party last night. Nobody was hurt and all that was taken were the men's wallets. It's a pretty big black eye for the authorities in Rio who are supposed to be providing security for the athletes.
Closing ceremonies for this Olympics will be Sunday night beginning at 6 or 7 o'clock.
