Baseball versus TAMU-CC

Lamar baseball hosts TAMU-CC in this weekend series. First pitch tonight at 6pm, weather permitting.

1st game moved up to 5 PM according to LamarCardinals.com Plan is to play double header tonight and single games Sat and Sun

The Islanders got two runs in the 1st on a lead off homerun and later three singles in a row.

Top of the fifth and still 2-0 Islanders. Lamar just not able to deliver the key hit as they have had runners in scoring position.

Palmer to pitch for Douthit in the fifth. What's up with the Lamar pitchers? Douthit hit at least three batters and Palmer hits the second batter he faces.

Sixth inning more relief pitcher woes for the Cards. Palmer hits another batter followed by a triple to make the score 3-0. Content comes in relief for Palmer and gives up three more runs. Now bottom of sixth with the Islanders up 6-0. As this is supposed to be a seven inning game, it doesn't look good for the Cards.

Cards drop the first game. Second game scheduled to start about 8:00 PM

Game two started about 7:45. Ekness pitching for Lamar. Got out of the first without giving up a run despite the lead off batter reaching on an error and a walk.

Lay off must be bothering Cards. In 2nd game, lead off hitter for Islanders gets on due to error on routine ground ball to 2nd base.

End of 1st, Cards take 3-0 lead with lead off double, single, fielders choice scores 1st run, followed by a Querion homer over the wall in dead center.

Cards get three in the bottom of the first to take the early lead. McNaughton lead off with a double and eventually scored on a fielders choice for George. Quirion homered to score George and himself.

Two out in the top of the third. Ekness ran out of gas. He walked the lead off batter, struck out the next two but then walked the next three including two wild pitches to score runs for the Islanders. Johnson coming in in relief with two out and runners on 2nd and 3rd.

Johnson managed to close the door on the Islanders in the third and LU scored once in the bottom of the third to make the score LU 5 - CC 2.

Fourth inning Johnson gives up two runs. Gets the first two batters to ground out then gives up four straight singles before getting the third out. Lamar gets one run back in the bottom of the third on a homer by Durand for a 6-4 lead at the end of four.

Top of the fifth, Islanders get four more runs to take an 8-6 lead. Gotta blame this on Davis. Every batter that came to the plate in the fourth put the ball in play with the bat and Davis allowed Johnson to return for the the fifth. First five batters in the fifth reach base for the Islanders with a walk and four hits before Johnson gets a ground out.
