McNeese Basketball Tourney

LU (347) plays Lindenwood (345) Friday at 2pm, Western Carolina (290) Saturday at 11am, then McNeese (326) Sunday at 1:30pm.

Not much difference in rankings, so a chance for a win in one of them. Would be nice to sweep the event.

Less than 2 minutes into the game and LU is already down by 11 points!!

LU finally woke and down 31-26 to Lindenwood with 5 minutes left in the half.

Lamar came back and tied the game at 33 with 1:38 left in the half but a foul, a turnover and a missed shot allowed Lindenwood to push out to a six-point lead at the half, 39-33.

Leading scorers are Calmese, Pennebaker, and Thirdkill with 9, 7, and 6 points respectively. These are all freshmen. Big guy Hamilton has 4 points.

Midway through second half with Lamar down by five. The Cards did get the lead briefly, but only for one possession. I think if Lamar could get a two or three score lead, they might be able to hold it, but so far haven't been able to get there.

3:47 left in the game with Lamar down by one 64-63 with the ball after the timeout.

1:32 left, tied at 67 and LU has the ball.

Agree and oh yeah, this team is young and inexperienced.

Freshman Calmese lead team with 20 points, followed by Hamilton with 11 points and 8 rebounds (we may have a decent inside player this year). Freshman Pennebaker had 9, followed by Buckley, Pryor, Thirdkill and Anderson with 8, 7, 6 and 5 respectively. It was nice the team did not fold in the first half when they were down big. Lots of players contributed which is a good sign. Team had 16 assists and 12 turnovers, and shot 44% for the game and 85% from the line. Buckley made 4 FTs near the end of the game to seal the win.

Lamar plays Western Carilina at 11 AM tomorrow. This could be another tough game, W. Carolina defeated McNeese by 19 this afternoon. Edited November 19, 2022 by geezer

Live stats not working, but ESPN has Lamar down by six somewhere early in the first half.

ESPN now shows Lamar down 28-22 with eight minutes left in the first half.
