I like the idea of Barbay- he's from the area, knows the schools, and has worked at Lamar (and SFA, so 2 Southland schools) for multiple years. It feels too obvious to hire him, though. Went 52–19 at Nebraska Wesleyan... and 82-37 (or so) in his first decade at Central Missouri (before COVID and a rough year)... but we see the difference in Tulane's first year with him running the offense. I don't care one way or the other, but not having success in his first head coach gig shouldn't be a disqualifier, but should send up red flags that need to be carefully looked at. If my memory is any good, which it isn't, the last time it was maybe a week after they terminated Schultz before they hired a consultant. That said, something had to be done or we were really in danger of losing the program again at the pace we were on. We will find out if our President and AD know a damn thing about athletics based on this hire. It is critical to bring in someone who has the ability to turn around a program and right the ship before they leave for greener pastures. We need a great coach for about 5 years to get us to where we want to be. In the age of million dollar NIL deals, It is harder than ever to run a great FCS program. I really hope whoever you get turns the program around. I don't know squat, but it seems like you never really had institutional buy-in from the administration for the beginning. The absolute best coach should be hired! The good ole boy system has for the most part kept LU athletics mediocre for most of the last 60 years.
