Football at Nicholls, November 11th

Three PM start. A win by the Cards would put Lamar in a share for the championship and possible automatic playoff berth depending on the final regular season game and the tie-breaker scenarios. I am not looking past tomorrow but without a win tomorrow it's a crap shoot if Lamar could get a playoff berth even with a win over McNeese.

About 10 minutes till kickoff and I am a bit nervous about this game. NSU beat UIW with the other Cardinals playing with their starting QB. LU played UIW with them playing a freshman QB.

Lamar takes the opening kickoff and drive 76 yards in 11 plays for the opening touchdown of the game and a 7-0 lead with 9:12 left in the first quarter. Lamar opened with two pass plays to start the drive.

Nicholls answers with an 8 play 68 yard drive to tie the game.

Lamar had a fairly good drive going but after getting across midfield had a run for a loss and then Coleman had a pass attempt tipped up at the line and intercepted. Nicholls is moving the ball again and are at the Lamar 37 at the end of the first quarter.

Nicholls capitalizes with a touchdown, but Lamar blocks the extra point try and runs it back for two points. Score now 13-9, Nicholls on top. We will see how Lamar offense reacts.

Another LU turnover, another Nicholls score. Too many mistakes.

Lamar has a good kickoff return, followed by a couple of rush attempts with the second one ending in a fumble. Nicholls capitalizes again with a four play 84 yard drive including a 69 yard run for a touchdown. Score now 20-9 with 10:48 left in the first half.

That is the matchup I am concerned about. Their offense against our defense. Not sure our DL measures up to their OL.

Lamar offense stalls again on the Nicholls half of the field. A great punt traps Nicholls at the 1/2 yard line and after Nicholls gets a first down an illegal motion penalty and a couple of nothing plays, on third and long the Cards sack the Nicholls qb for a safety. Now 20-11.

Lamar unable to take advantage of the free kick. Lamar lines can't control the middle of the line.

Very frustrating half. Left a lot of points on the field.

Lamar tried a quarterback sneak on third down, and because of the time rushed the field goal unit on but following an offside call on Nicholls decided to go for it and failed. Lamar offensive line just can't get a push up the middle and likewise the Lamar defensive line is inconsistent at clogging the middle. That is the number one place Lamar needs to improve in my opinion.

the play calling at end of half was pure shit!

I hate it when a team gambles away 3 points. Down 20-14 going into the half is a lot better than 20-11. Plus side is despite all the mistakes LU could be winning this game. Stats are about even except for the 2 costly turnovers and being denied a TD to end the half.

Lamar defense finally tightens up and forces Nicholls to try a long field goal on their first drive of the second half. The attempt fails.

Lamar drives for a gap closing touchdown on a 19 yard pass to Fuselier to draw the score to 20-18. Makes not going for the fg at the end of the half potentially even bigger. Lamar will have to continue to stop Nicholls.

Nicholls responds with a quick hitting drive with a couple of big plays to go back up by nine on a fifteen-yard pass. Now 27-18 Nicholls.

With the Lamar touchdown, the Cards still have a reasonable chance. Nice drive using the TE several times. Lamar down by ten.
